Chicago Olympics 2016 is today’s big story, what with the International Olympic Committee set to vote tomorrow to choose the host city. Why does President Obama - plus good Chicago pals Michelle Obama, David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett - take time off to help make Mayor Daley’s vision a reality? It’s time to look back a year or two to the Chicago Way that got our president where he is today. Let’s see, here’s one scenario: Chicago is virtually bankrupt, and squeaky-clean Winnetka businessman Pat Ryan is raising $billions in private donations to “make sure” Chicago taxpayers are off the hook for any overages or underages in revenues to build the Olympic stadia - and Mayor Daley will bring in lots of jobs (temporary though) to build the housing and roads and ticket kiosks. All good things. There’s another scenario though, that might explain better why the Air Force One 747 (Barry’s transport) and 727 (Michelle and Oprah’s transport) needed to take time off from the nation’s business to make sure Chicago gets the Olympics. This story has to do with slum housing development (for example Grove Parc, conveniently located next to the future Olympic Stadium) and presidential advisor-in-chief Valerie Jarrett - who, by the way, used to manage Grove Parc before it got really nasty. Jarrett has a knack for moving funds around through government pension funds and private investment opportunities; she also knows how to recoup losses, which in the case of Grove Parc are big. The Chicago Olympics are important to Mayor pay-to-play Daley, and they are important to Presidential Advisor Valerie Jarrett.
